I’m Mia, a Generalist Psychologist with previous clinical training/experience as a Registered Nurse. I have had post-graduate experience in research, tertiary education (medicine), non-government organisations/not-for-profits, psychological assessment, and private practice for the past eleven years. Training in Mental Health First Aid in the Tertiary and Public settings is also something I provide.
I work with adults and near-adults, with a therapy focus on enhancing existing strengths and resilience, self-empowerment, and changing the mental, emotional, and behavioural habits that contribute to mental health challenges.
I moved to the Gold Coast early 2023, having lived here for a year previously. I have lived in South East Queensland for 22 years, so it was not a big move! I love living and working on the Gold Coast as there is always something to do outdoors, it is warm enough to swim for most of the year, and there are plenty of places to swim! My approach to therapy is client-centered, humanistic, and evidence-informed care, and I tailor interventions to your needs. Regular review of the therapeutic strategy and your outcomes help inform the ongoing approach to your therapy.
I employ appropriate elements of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Interpersonal Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Trauma-Focused Therapy, including EMDR and EFT. I always assess your current functioning, as factors such as poor diet, lack of sleep, lack of exercise/fresh air/sunshine, and relationship challenges will all impact your mental health.
We all work with common presentations such as stress, adjustment, depression, anxiety, grief, and loss. In addition, I focus on the following challenges:
