Neuroaffirming Autism & ASD Psychologist Comprehensive, Holistic Care for Neurodivergent Adults
At Redman Gall Psychologists, we specialize in supporting adults with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) through a neuroaffirming, holistic approach.
At Redman Gall Psychologists, we are proud to be a neuroaffirming clinic. This means we don’t view ASD as a condition that needs to be ‘fixed’. Instead, we understand that people with ASD or autistic individuals experience a range of challenges when interacting with environments and systems that are not well-designed for neurodiversity. For our adult assessments we emphasise the lived experience of the individual in the assessment and treatment process.
Note on Terminology: We use both “people with ASD” and “autistic individuals” throughout our site. We recognize that preferences vary, and we always work with each individual’s preferred term.
We believe in providing holistic care that addresses all aspects of your well-being. Our team has established a robust referral system to GPs, psychiatrists, and allied health professionals who we find helpful to include in a care team. This ensures that you receive comprehensive support tailored to your unique needs.
The Redman Gall team has a holistic focus and is able to provide health psychology interventions to support health behaviour change. Our approach recognises the interconnection between physical and mental health, especially in neurodivergent individuals.
Our team includes two dedicated health psychologists who are available to consult on your case or provide direct support for those with more complex challenges. This additional expertise allows us to offer more comprehensive care for individuals dealing with both ASD and related health concerns.
As experienced ASD psychologists, we recognise that autism presents differently in each individual. Our team at Redman Gall Psychologists is skilled in identifying and addressing the unique challenges faced by adults on the autism spectrum, while celebrating their strengths and unique perspectives. Many of our clinicians live in neurodivergent families and have direct or indirect lived experience.
Our understanding of autism spectrum disorder is constantly evolving, particularly in relation to adults. Many adults with ASD have developed coping mechanisms and ways of behaving that can ‘mask’ their autism. This masking can make it challenging to identify ASD in adults, as they may have learned to mimic neurotypical behaviours in social situations.
Undiagnosed ASD is associated with poorer health and mental health outcomes. Often people have received one or more diagnoses previously, and at times ASD traits or challenges are misunderstood. It is common that in the absence of understanding that ASD is present, previous treatment of previously diagnosed conditions is not effective. Getting the correct diagnosis is absolutely integral to improving your health and wellbeing.
At Redman Gall Psychologists, we are well-versed in recognizing these subtle signs and understanding the complexities of adult ASD. Our approach takes into account the potential for masking and the unique ways ASD may manifest in adulthood. We provide a safe, understanding environment where adults can explore their experiences without judgment.
It’s becoming increasingly clear that neurodivergence is often associated with physical health conditions that can be more complex and unusual. In some cases, these conditions may contribute to or exacerbate ASD symptoms. We believe that everyone deserves to be as healthy as possible and to have a good quality of life. Our holistic approach considers both mental and physical well-being, and we can provide guidance on seeking appropriate medical care when needed.
